Today is my mother’s birthday. It is hard to realize that she is 86 years old. We, in the family, call her the “energizer bunny”, she is so active and full of life. She surely was the “energizer” tonight as we gathered for supper at her home.
Her table was set with her best china and crystal. All of the perfect touches were there on the table. Mike, my dh, made her a cake–made from scratch I might add. It was a triple coconut cake –ummm, ummm good and she loved it.
Today I was getting ready to make her a card when I saw the challenge on Sharon Johnson’s blog (http://notimetostamp.blogs.splitcoaststampers.com/)– this was so much better than a card. Mom reads daily and I knew that this would be something that she would add to her books. Something to touch, smile and remember her day.
The day I started my blog I wrote about my mom and her “Wonder Closet”. It is a very large (big enough for a bedroom by some standards) and filled with fabrics, ribbons, buttons, well, any kind of embellishment that one could look for….it goes without saying that she loves the details in things. Her home is very feminine. Her china has small pink flowers, so when I was looking for just the right paper in my stash and found this, I knew it fit the bill perfectly.
I followed (and very much cased) Sharon’s bog instructions…..it was so easy. I used two sizes of the Nestabilities to cut and frame the roses from a page of dp in the Radiant collection from Crafty Secrets (a new member company of SCS–so please check it out). I used Stampin’ Up! Whisper White,Old Olive, and Rose Regal for the bookmark. The ribbons are all from the May Arts collection found at Flourishes.
The bookmark and sleeve were passed around the table by all my nieces and the OHs! and AHs! had Mom smiling and me pleased to have made her happy. Thanks Sharon for enabling me. It also helped that we brought her a vase of her favorite roses, LeAnn Rimes. The coloration of that rose was a perfect compliment of the bookmark and sleeve.
Yes, Mom you always said it was the little things, the details that add to makes things so special Are you sure you and Grandma didn’t teach Martha about the “Good Things”?
Til next time……..
Ciao
