New Nestabilities Arrive

That’s right! These are the new releases from CHA….we received a partial order today and expect more this week. Watch here and our SCS forum for news of the arrivals. We are readying these for the store shelves and since the supply is limited, they will be on a first come first serve basis. We also have the plain heart and scalloped heart and a good selection of most of the Nesties.

I used these new ovals and scalloped ovals in the card that I made for the SCS challenge (CC159) today. I love these new shapes…they allow for thinner ovals. I think it very much fits into the the little girl dress details challenge that we are doing on the SCS forum. Check it out and join in the fun.

He Has Risen Alleuia!

                 ALLELUIA! ALLELUIA! ALLELUIA! HE HAS RISEN!

We wish you and yours all the joy and blessings that this Easter and Easter tide season hold.

The card today captures all the simplicity and majesty that is rightfully due our King. The focal point is the message of the day. To keep focused on the real topic at hand…I choose beautiful colored papers….the gold brushed paper holds the majesty of the celebration and the white paper is a new “silver Ice metallic”. It has a whitter appearance and slightly more sheen. The only ink used was Encore metallic gold. The Silver Ice paper was embossed with a new Cuttlebug folder and I am very pleased with the result…great definition. The ribbon is also truly fit for a king, a metallic gold wired edge ribbon….a straight forward card that allows the message to be delivered.

Little Girls Dresses for Inspiration and a Challenge

I think that little girls dresses hold so much inspiration for me, I just love smocking, stitching, ruffles, tiny lace, and of course, tiny prints.  My last post fell into this category and today I will continue with a different view of an inspiration drawn from a little girls dress.  This one focuses on the tiny calico print, scalloped edging and the satin bow. 

Here is my challenge for you this week.  Create a card or project that has the details of a little girls dress…you decide which styles you would like.  Replicate embroidery, tucking, entredeau (French word for insertion), pretty and tiny buttons…any thing that says soft and sweet for a little girls dress.  Link your card to the Flourishes SCS forum under the thread Little Girls Dress and Inspiration and a Challenge.  I would love it if you used Flourishes stamps but it is not necessary…just the style.  Here is a site that reminds you of some of these techniques that can be used on cards, an easy way to preserve an almost vanishing art.  I hope you will play along.

Details:

   Papers: watercolor paper, SU Sky Blue, Chocolate Chip, and Afternoon Tea DP

   Stamps: Flourishes-Easter Bunnies

   Inks:  Hybrid Palette Noir and Burnt Umber,  reinkers: sky blue, pretty in pink, sage green, certainly celery, and lavender. Aqua painter and Sakura Stardust jelly roll pen.

  Accessories: Pink Satin ribbon, small white ribbon with pink (from Michaels), small paper flowers, and a few rhinestones.

Soft and Feminine Easter Blessings

Nothing says Easter to me more than seeing a little girl all dressed up in a pretty frilly dress….my personal favorite is dotted swiss.  The card for today takes all the fine detailing often found in little girls dresses….tiny stitching, edging, and of course a soft color..in this case vellum that’s been Cuttlebugged with the new dotted swiss folder and placed over light pink cardstock.

                                 

 For the main image I used Croygen White brushed metallic paper, then stamped the Flourishes Easter Blessings in Hybrid Palette Noir. I colored the image using Prisma colored pencils and Copics metallics.  Using the colorless blender allowed me to continue the soft range of colors.  I just love this soft look.  The metallic paper is lightly sponged with a soft pink ink then I added the edge details by hand.  The next layer is plain white cardstock and a thin edge of spring green.  The CBed vellum was adhered to the soft pink cardstock which I had run thru my Xyron.  The pink scalloped ribbon was cut down the middle to make the pretty detail against the spring green cardstock.  The same techniques were used for the sentiment…..of course the final detail on any little girls dress would be a ribbon sash…so I added that detail to the card to complete the look.

Easter Bunnies–Got Eggs???

Hippity   ——   Hoppity,  Easter’s on it’s way.    Yes, It’s almost time for the Easter Bunnies to show up in your home town.  And what a better way that to have your own Easter Bunnies……these little bunnies only require use, cleaning, and can be contained in tidy clear storage boxes…sorry they don’t reproduce!   

I ‘m talking about Flourishes new Easter Bunnies released yesterday, Isn’t this little guy too stinkin cute? 

                              

I wanted to replicate the sugar eggs I got as a child.  The Nestabilites made this Oh So Easy!  I cut one each from the yellow and lavender, then placed them over a white base card on which I had stamped and colored the bunny image.  Thanks to Martha…I have a new little punch that I have been using like crazy.  Although it is meant to be used in a line, I simply angled it and used it on the corners..now that is a Good Thing…as Martha would say.

I trimmed the edge of the egg with a string of tiny little bling that I had gotten at Michael’s years ago.  Then just finished the top off with the faux bow and the sentiment…now…Have You Got Eggs???

Easter Bunnies–an ATC SWAP

One of the Flourishes Design Team members, Tracy Durcan hosted a ATC swap.  Well I haven’t done a swap in a long time, but I knew that Easter Bunnies was due for release and this spoke to me.  So here is the card that I did for the swap.

Easter Sets Released by Flourishes

Spring is definitely in the air….and Flourishes is releasing two Easter sets today.  They are both all original art, Easter Bunnies is a whimsical set drawn by a friend of fellow Flourish, SharonD (sewflake).  The second set, Easter Blessings ,is very dear to me as as it came to me via my mother. 

 Today I want to share the history of Easter Blessings.  My mother shared with me a collection of antique holy cards that had been owned by my grandmother.  They are all very special, often very small, but the art work is glorious….each and every one of them is so beautiful .  Here is the original from which I worked.  It is a mere 2 1/2 “x 3″  and has aged beautifully.

This is my card made from Easter Blessings.  I have tried to replicate the colors and feel of the original. 

I stamped the image with Hybrid Palette Burnt Umber and then watercolored the image.  I tried to keep the color very similar..but still fresh and today.  I used Ranger Distress Brown ink to slightly age the paper.  The base of the card is Metallic Carmel from the Flourishes webstore.  The layer is SU Always Artichoke.  A light satin ribbon is tied with a tiny piece of pink velvet ribbon. 

I think Mom will be pleased and my Grandmother would be proud.
